Administration
The club is administered by a Management Committee of eight supported by sub-committees for selection, tournaments, coaching, social and recruitment. Further sub-committees can be formed as and when necessary.
Club Affiliation
The club is affiliated to the Essex County Hockey Association and through that the Hockey England Association. There is now one Association, the EHA, responsible for Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed Hockey in England.
The club is an integral part of Belfairs Sports and Social Club and hockey club members are entitled to use the clubhouse facilities throughout the whole year.
Pitches and Clubhouse
Up to three grass pitches and the clubhouse are located at Belfairs Sports Ground, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. We also use an Astro-turf pitch at Waterside Farm Sports Centre, Canvey Island, which is approximately 5 miles from Belfairs. In recent years have started using other Astros at King John School, South Benfleet and St Thomas More School, Westcliff-on-Sea.
Full contact details and maps are available in the 'Contact us' section of this website.
Club Colours
Royal Blue and Amber shirts, Black shorts, Royal Blue and Amber socks for the men. Royal Blue and White shirts, Black skirts and Amber socks for the ladies. All club kit and general hockey equipment should be available through the Equipment Officers (Andy Poulain and Marcus Watson).
Teams
Winter - 4 Saturday men’s teams, 3 Saturday ladies’ teams, 2 indoor men's teams and 1 indoor ladies' team playing mid-week at Brentwood. From time to time we run a mixed team on Sundays and the occasional Colts team and Veterans XI. We have recently started youth training and mini-hockey.
Summer - 2 men’s teams play mid-week in the Chelmsford Summer League. 1 ladies' team playing playing at Maldon.
Training Arrangements
Training is conducted in club and takes place at Eastwood Schools (Rayleigh Road, Eastwood) on the astro from 8.00 – 10.00.
Team Selection
Teams are selected every other week and the Club Bulletin incorporating these selections is handed out on the following Saturday or e-mailed. Teams are normally selected 2 weeks ahead so it is important that Members give as much notice as possible of any dates on which they are not available. All members are assumed to be available unless previously indicated. All members, whether playing or not, receive a bulletin – if you do not receive yours then contact the Club Captain or your Team Captain. Do NOT assume you are not selected !!!
Travel arrangements for away games
The majority of teams meet in the car park at Belfairs near the clubhouse, although some teams have adopted the Halfords car park at Rayleigh Weir as an alternative. Special pick-up points can be arranged if necessary. Certain players may be nominated as drivers for that week and are paid expenses to help defray the cost.
Subscriptions
These are required by the first fixture in the winter season in respect of existing members and as soon as possible after joining for new members. Subs paid in full by the end of October will usually be entitled to a discount with a lesser discount if paid by end November. Arrangements can easily be made to pay the subscription in instalments by standing order and extraordinary arrangements may be made with the Treasurer's discretion. The club takes a poor view of the non-payment of subs and there is provision within the rules to remove persistent non-payers from the club.
Match fees are collected for actual games played and must be paid in full on the day.
Shirt Numbers
All playing members are required to have numbered shirts. For men the number is maintained in a central register by the Membership Secretary. Please ensure that it is correctly sewn onto the back of your club shirt.
Cancellations - Players
Players are automatically assumed to be available each week unless they have given prior notification. Any player who has to cancel should phone the team captain at the earliest possible opportunity so that a replacement can be arranged. Cancellation after the Thursday immediately prior to the game will likely result in the player being dropped for the next Team Selection unless a good reason is given. Players are urged not to cancel unless absolutely unavoidable.
Cancellations - Fixtures
If a fixture is cancelled the Fixture Secretary will inform the appropriate Team Captain who will in turn advise his/her players. If the weather looks doubtful on Saturday / Sunday morning ring the team captain to check on the status of the game. Never assume a game is cancelled because of weather – all games are played if possible.
Insurance
The club has £5,000,000 public liability insurance and this covers players, coaches, trainers etc. For full details contact the Secretary. |
