Southend maldon league lost 4-1 to Colchester A

Goalscorer: Sam Warren

Well we finished off the summer league with a massively improved scoreline against Colchester A compared to last time! Colchester fielded a mixed team with some real youngsters and some very experienced higher league players but we were really unlucky to be 2 goals down at half time. The 2nd half started well (powered by the half time Tangfastics) and Sam got a lovely goal after getting on the end of a perfect pass from Kate. It was really lovely hockey. Hannah was unlucky not to get several herself with Kate really on form this summer league and setting up so much of the attacking play- with the pair of them playing together so well the 2s can really look forward to a cracking season ahead! Colchester managed to get another couple of goals in there somewhere, but we really gave them a good competitive game.

This league has been a really tough challenge to all of us who've played in it. Some of the girls came into summer league having played Essex div 4 and 5 and were playing teams from East 1S to Essex div 1. The results were never going to be pretty but we've been blessed with a crop of talented, determined and enthusiastic young players who've really been a credit to the club, not letting their heads go down and turning up ready and raring to go week in, week out.

Some particular individuals to note; Charlotte from Old Southendians has been great in goal and really helped us out. Elizabeth has really thrown herself in at the deep end given how new she is to the sport and has come on leaps and bounds this summer. Katie has shown real potential- although from the 4s she has the ability and determination to play much higher in the future. Hannah has been an absolute star up front and was our top goalscorer, with Kate having pretty much an assist to each goal we scored. And not to forget Alice who's been superb in midfield. Thanks also to Christine for umpiring most of our games, Lyn and Natasha for collecting match fees and to the supporters we've had too (Tracey, Sherry, Lyn, Jack, Henry, Nikki, Dani etc). Final thank you to Natasha for being my lovely and reliable vice-captain sorting out the team when i couldn't make it. Well done ladies, i think there's a lot to look forward to this season coming!
